Club Brugge emerged victorious with a 4-2 win over Zulte Waregem at Elindus Arena in the Jupiler Pro League. The match, characterized by a flurry of first-half goals, saw Hugo Vetlesen shine with a goal and an assist. Brugge took control early, establishing a formidable 4-1 lead by halftime, which proved insurmountable for the hosts.
First-Half Offensive Surge
From the first whistle, Club Brugge asserted their dominance. Hugo Vetlesen opened the scoring just three minutes in with an assist from Nicolò Tresoldi. Zulte Waregem briefly equalized through T. Hedl at the 32nd minute, but moments later, C. Forbs restored Brugge's lead. N. Tresoldi added a third at 36 minutes, making the most of J. Seys's assist, before H. Vanaken capped off a remarkable half with a goal in the 45th minute.
Zulte Waregem's Resistant But Ineffective Second Half
Despite a better defensive display after the break, Zulte Waregem struggled to maintain possession, managing only 24% throughout the match. T. Hedl found the net again in the 59th minute with help from A. Ementa, yet Club Brugge's organized defense, led by Brandon Mechele's 12 duels won, nullified further threats. Substitutions by both teams failed to alter the outcome, and the visitors comfortably saw out the result.
Tactical Dominance and Key Player Performances
Brugge's tactical setup in a 4-2-3-1 formation allowed them to exploit spaces effectively, with Jorne Spileers orchestrating play from the back, completing an impressive 116 accurate passes. The visitors' pressing game forced numerous errors, while their 17 total shots highlighted an aggressive approach. Hugo Vetlesen's overall impact, coupled with Nicolò Tresoldi's creative contributions, underscored Brugge's superior strategy.
Looking Ahead
The victory strengthens Club Brugge's position in the league, further emphasized by their recent form, including a thrilling Champions League win over Inter. For Zulte Waregem, the defeat reflects ongoing struggles, having notched only one victory in their last five matches. As Brugge continues their upward momentum, Zulte Waregem will need to regroup and reassess their tactics to reverse their fortunes in upcoming fixtures.
