Almeria delivered a commanding performance at home, defeating Leganes 3-0 in the Segunda División. The match, held at the UD Almería Stadium, saw all goals scored in a lively second half, with Miguel De La Fuente playing a pivotal role. This victory marks another strong display for Almeria, bolstering their position in the league.
A Second-Half Transformation
Despite a goalless first half, the match took a dramatic turn shortly after the break. Miguel De La Fuente opened the scoring in the 52nd minute, assisted by Stefan Džodić, setting the tone for the remainder of the game. Just five minutes later, De La Fuente struck again, this time with help from Brian Cipenga, securing his brace and putting Almeria firmly in control.
Daijiro Chirino added to Leganes' misery in the 61st minute, finishing a move orchestrated by Quim Junyent. The quick succession of goals left Leganes scrambling to regain composure, but they failed to make any significant impact, managing only one shot on target throughout the match.
Strategic Mastery and Defensive Solidity
Almeria's dominance was not just in attack but also tactically. Holding 64% possession and completing 517 accurate passes, they dictated the pace and flow of the game. Their defensive line remained impenetrable, with only a single save required from their goalkeeper, underscoring their control over the fixture.
Leganes, on the other hand, struggled to find their rhythm. Despite making several substitutions, including bringing on Álvaro Morata, they were unable to break through Almeria's organized ranks. With a mere 36% possession and five yellow cards, their frustration was evident.
Momentum and Future Prospects
Almeria's win continues their impressive run, reflecting consistency in their recent performances. The team looks poised to continue this form as they maintain their upper-table position. For Leganes, this loss signals a need for reassessment, as they struggle to find form away from home. The upcoming fixtures will test their resolve and ability to bounce back from this setback.
